At Birla Vidya Niketan, our curriculum is guided by the vision of NEP 2020, NCF for the Foundational Stage (2022) and NCF for School Education (2023). Following the 5+3+3+4 curricular and pedagogical structure, we focus on nurturing the child through meaningful, engaging and age-appropriate learning experiences.
Our approach goes beyond academic achievement to develop knowledge, skills, competencies, values, creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, problem-solving and socio-emotional well-being.
Learning is play-based, activity-based, experiential and child-centred, with a strong focus on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN). Children develop language, early literacy and numeracy, physical and motor skills, creativity, communication and socio-emotional competencies through stories, rhymes, music, movement, art, games, exploration, role play and hands-on experiences.
Learning progressively becomes inquiry-driven, competency-based and interdisciplinary, while retaining an experiential and joyful approach. Students are encouraged to question, investigate, apply concepts to real-life situations, think critically and creatively, collaborate, communicate and reflect on their learning through projects, experiments, discussions, presentations, field experiences and hands-on activities.
Our curriculum provides opportunities for children to make meaningful connections across disciplines through art-integrated learning, sports and physical education, yoga, music, dance, digital literacy, coding, computational thinking, robotics, clubs, educational visits, assemblies and enrichment programmes.
Life skills, values, environmental awareness, citizenship and socio-emotional learning are woven into everyday experiences, fostering empathy, resilience, responsibility, respect and leadership.
Language learning develops listening, speaking, reading and writing, along with comprehension, vocabulary, expression and communication. Children are encouraged to read, converse, narrate, present, dramatise and appreciate India’s rich linguistic and cultural diversity.
Assessment is an integral part of learning and focuses on competencies, conceptual understanding, application, skills, values and individual growth.
At the Foundational Stage, assessment is primarily continuous, observational and developmentally appropriate. At the Preparatory Stage, a range of formative, oral, written, project-based and competency-based assessments enables teachers to understand and support every child's progress.
A distinctive feature of our assessment system is the Holistic Progress Card (HPC), implemented across Balvatika to Class V, which captures the child’s progress across multiple dimensions of development, recognising individual strengths, competencies, interests and areas for growth.
Our classrooms foster a culture of questioning, exploration, collaboration, creativity and reflection. Teachers facilitate learning through differentiated and inclusive approaches, recognising that every child learns differently and providing opportunities for every learner to participate, progress and flourish.
